Picture: This picture shows what happens to the things that we throw away. More than half of the things we throw away are landfilled and only about one-third of them are recycled. 11.7% of the stuff that we throw away ends up being combusted for energy.

Summary: Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community and the environment. Recycling helps reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills and incinerators, helps conserves natural resources such as wood, water, and minerals and it saves energy. Recycling helps prevent pollution and reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change. Recycling can also help keep the environment for future generations. Some common household items that are recycled are newspapers, plastic/aluminum cans and water bottles. The best way to reduce waste is not to create it at all. Making a new product requires a lot of material and energy, raw material must be taken from the earth and the product must be made and then transported. Some things that can be reused are cloth, books, and shopping bags and some things that can be reduced is water use, fertilizer use and etc. The reduce, reuse, recycle method is the most effective way to save natural resources, protect the environment and save money.

Opinion/Reflection: I always recycle plastic bottles, cereal boxes and magazines but I never thought what I am doing is this important to the environment and the world. My family recycles a lot and we constantly reuse cloth, jars and baby toys. We try to shut off water when were not using it and turn off the light if it is not needed. I feel really good that I was doing it without knowing because now I will continue to do this and perhaps recycle, reuse, and reduce more. I think people that don't reduce, reuse and recycle should start doing it because they are helping the environment and they are also helping themselves.

 Questions:
1. From the reduce, reuse, recycle method, which one do you think is the most important?
2. Do you think there should be strict laws about recycling?
3. Do you believe that the reduce, reuse, recycle method is important?

  1. In this video it dicusses the topic of Global Climate Change also known as Global Warming. The video explains the way were getting our engery and treating our earth is polluting the earth. It explains that the "young people" need to be taught about how to treat our earth because we will be dealing with the lasting effects of it. It also says that the effects of global warming will change our everyday life.

  2. I feel that recycling is a very key and important role in helping to save and conserve our environment. Due to this, when I saw the graph portraying what we do when we throw stuff away, I was very displeased to see that over half of what is thrown away ends up in a landfill. This is very bad to the environment, as it pollutes the land and gives off gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect otherwise known as global warming. Currently, we are facing major problems with global warming as our climate is slowly increasing over time. To help prevent the acceleration of this recycling is key. By using the method of reduce, reuse, recycle, we can really make a difference in helping to reverse these harmful effects that are being caused from factors such as not recycling. Personally, recycling plays a big part in how I live my everyday life as I try to be the most environmentally friendly as I possibly can. I try to use the least amount of water as possible, I save energy by turning off electronics when not used, and most importantly I recycle. My family recycles everything possible, and I also try to do the same. By reducing, reusing, and recycling, we can all make a very positive outcome in contributing to the help of keeping pollution and global warming to a minimal.

    Question:
How do you contribute to recycling, and how often do you remember to?

Do you find recycling to be an important issue in the world today?

Do you feel like something needs to be done to raise the awareness of recycling?

  3. I found an interesting article on recycling and I would like to share it. Everyone says to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Well in this article it has an interesting viewpoint as to why we should not need to recycling, and why it is bad for the environment. In this article it talks about how plastic and paper companies are overusing their plastic and paper, and making money by forcing people to recycle. It shows that because of recycling we are actually producing more trash then ever before, and we have to use extra energy just to recycle it. I found this article very interesting, and I think everyone should read it. Here is the link.
