Picture: This picture shows the process of thermal pollution and one of things that causes it and what  are the effects of it.

Thermal Pollution

Thermal Pollution is the rise and fall in tempature of a natural body of water caused by human influence. It happens when warmer water has less oxygen. In the United States industrial waste water is the biggest factor in thermal pollution. Power plants for example are big impacts on thermal pollution. When the water used at the power plant leaves it goes back to the bodies of water. It affects ecosystems and decreases the oxygen. Also when the tempature is higher the less dissolved oxygen. This messes with fishes, amphibins, and coepods. If it messes with animals it messes with their ecosystem.  Which means its biodiversty can be affected an decrease. Thermal Pollution can be controlled by cooling ponds, cooling towers which take waste heat to the atmosphere, and congeneration a process where heat is recycled. It's very easy to stop or controlled so we need to start now.

Opinion:
I think that Thermal Pollution is something that be taken care of easily. It is hard to stop completly because of the other things we do to create it. I do think their could be a way to stop thermal pollution altogther(because its hurting are animals) and keep producing what we need. Even though we dont here that much about thermal pollution it is still hurting us. If we take care of it know we wont have to worry about it later on.

Questions:
Do you think we should focus on Thermal Pollution? Do you think we should try to stop it?
Do you think that if we stop Thermal Pollution there will be a big change?
How are some off the ways we can stop it?

  1. OPINION/REFLECTION:
This interested me because I never heard of thermal pollution and its affects. This article made me realize how important thermal pollution is and that we need to do something about it. Based on this article, thermal pollution can affect and decrease biodiversity which will impact us because we want high biodiversity for many different reasons. This article said that it is easy to stop and control thermal pollution but if we don't do anything about it, then it will get worse and will start to impact lots of species and ecosystems.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Should we be more concerned about thermal pollution or water pollution?
    2. Do you think people are hurrying to stop thermal pollution?
    3. Do you think that thermal pollution will start to affect humans more than water pollution and air pollution?

  2. 1. I believe that we should be more concerned with thermal pollution and water pollution because it causes a big problem for organisms and their ecosystems. This can cause major decreases in certain organisms populations that are affected from the thermal pollution and may lead to extinction in some cases. It can also alter an ecosystems food web which will then cause decreases in organism populations. We should certainly be more concerned with thermal pollution and water pollution in the world.

    2. I think that people may be starting to hurry to help stop thermal pollution as it creates many problems with organisms and their ecosystems. If we are making efforts to stop extinction, then thermal pollution should be just as important as it may cause major organism decreases in populations and maybe even extinction. I hope that people are starting to make an effort to stop thermal pollution.

    3. I don't think that thermal pollution will start to affect humans. The amount of oxygen in our water does not matter for drinking or for our crops, but could affect fishing for food. I don't think it is a major problem to humans or that it will start affecting us unless it becomes a problem for fishing for food.

  3. Here is an interesting article on thermal pollution.
    http://www.pollutionissues.com/Te-Un/Thermal-Pollution.html

In this article the author tells you about thermal pollution and its negative affects on the environment. He tells you how thermal pollution is a direct cause to thermal shock and how that leads to dissolved levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. Not only that he gives interesting facts about thermal pollution and tells us about sources of thermal pollution and where it comes from. Most people probably don't know that you create thermal pollution just by burning up your fireplace in your house! This article has many exciting facts about thermal pollution and really teaches you a lot but in a sophisticated way. If you want to learn more about this topic or just a good read you should most defiantly check out this article about thermal pollution.
